 POSITION DESCRIPTIONS:

TITLE:  TRANSIT VEHICLE OPERATOR I:

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1.   Will maintain a professional appearance during working hours by being clean and well groomed.


  2.   Responsible for transportation of persons utilizing the bus system in the NCRTD service area.


  3.   Will be required to transport users of the transit system in a safe, efficient, and professional manner.


  4.   Will be required to transport social services program recipients. 


  5.   May be required to transport individuals with disabilities.


  6.   Will be required to transport the general public.


  7.   Maintains a transportation log of customers utilizing either a manual system or Swipe Card system   

         when implemented.


  8.   Required to attend all training as needed.


  9.   Inspects vehicles and equipment in accordance to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.


10.   Will be responsible to assure that all safety precautions are followed.

11.   Must be professional, pleasant, courteous, and efficient when dealing with the public.


12.   May be required to perform minor mechanical tasks.


13.   Will perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Regional Coordinator.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:


1. Employee will complete a pre-employment drug test.
2. Must report all/any traffic violations immediately to Supervisor.
3. Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the NCRTD.
4. Compensation Time will be given only when authorized by Supervisor or Regional Coordinator.

INSTITUTIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.  Describe institutional and responsibilities associated with the position.
2.  Adhere to all approved NCRTD policy, procedures, and regulations.
3.  Maintain a clean, healthy, and safe environment so as not endanger self or others.
4.  Adhere to performance evaluation..
5.  Must inform Supervisor or Regional Coordinator of any over the counter/prescribed medication being taken.
6.  Be responsible and accountable for property assigned to you.

SKILLS. KNOWLEDGE. AND ABILITIES:

1.   Identify specific skills, knowledge, and abilities needed to perform the job.


2.   High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) Equivalent.


3.   Must have a Class 5 driver license


4.   Must submit to alcohol and drug test as required by Federal Transit Administration.


5.   Must attain Defensive Driver, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certification six (6)

       months of hire.


 6.  Must be willing to learn roads in service to provide demand response transit service.


 7.  Ability to increase PC function for entering and retrieval of information for reporting purposes.


 8.  Must be able to work under stressful conditions, situations, and personalities.


 9.  Must be knowledgeable of all traffic laws and regulations pertaining to public transportation.


10. Must have a clean driving record. No DWI convictions.


11. Must have the ability to read, comprehend all written instruction or orders, and write legibly.

11.  Knowledge of Tewa is a plus!!


WORKING CONDITIONS

BRIEFLY DESCRIBE THE PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT IN THAT THE EMPLOYEE WORKS.
1. The hours of work will vary from day to day depending on the number of clients needing transportation, and may be required to work or take training on weekends in order to serve the needs of our clients or the department.
2. Potential work hazards include operation of vehicles, hazardous or inclement road conditions, climbing in or out of vehicles for employee and rider.
3. Employee may be required to take some job-related course work.
4. Must be flexible to work hours assigned.

1. Do daily maintenance checks as per daily maintenance log sheets.
2. Will drive scheduled routes assigned by Dispatcher/ Supervisor/ Administrative Assistant/ Regional Coordinator
3. Must be aware that schedules are subject to change on a moments notice with the exception of fixed routes
4. Driver will portray their professionalism through their positive and respectful relationship with Dispatcher/ Supervisor/ Administrative Assistant/ Staff
5. Driver is to call into office notifying dispatch of any cancellations/no shows.
6. Driver must carry cell phone at all times and be left in vehicle. Driver is on call at all times.
7. Driver must notify the dispatch office when their route has been completed and will be going on flex time.
